VW offering Carbon Offsets through January

rabbitVolkswagen is teaming up with Carbonfund.org to offset an entire year of carbon emissions for every car bought between Sept. 1, 2007 and Jan. 2, 2008. The money will be directed to “help reforest areas of the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley (LMAV) in Northern Louisiana.”

Not only does this program help reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere but it also restores native trees to habitat, provides food for local wildlife, reclaims barren pastureland and increases water security.

  1. Terra, I wanted to thank you for your praise of the 2007 Burning River Fest! Our team worked very hard on the event, and we are planning a bigger and better event for 2008. I’ve sent your blog to a number of people, who agree your site is very cool! I would like to send you an “official” Burning River Fest tee shirt to show our appreciation, so if you wouldn’t mind getting in touch with me to get your mailing info (if that’s okay), please contact me at 216.771.4404. Peace!

  2. Kami,
    I’m so excited! Thanks for reading my blog. We learned so much at the Burning River Fest, and can’t wait for next year.

    Update: The upside-down tomato plant we bought at the Burning River Fest is growing fantastically, and our compost bin that we were inspired to start is working out very well.

  3. Terra, I’d like to incorporate sustainable clothing into our Gift Shop at Great Lakes Brewing Company, as well as outfit our sales team. We’ve worked in the past with Patagonia’s Beneficial Tees (organic cotton), but consistent availability was a problem. Now that hemp, recycled fibers, soy, bamboo and organic cotton are becoming more mainstream, I’m finding more and more companies that offer these types of wearables. However, because of our size, we’d be more on the wholesale end, thus requiring regular reorders of blanks, as well as favorable pricing so that our customers aren’t price-gouged. Do you have any suggestions on good companies that specialize in these products? So far I’ve found the following company websites to be somewhat promising:
    * HT Naturals
    * Bambooclothes.com
    * Clothingmatters.net
    * Hemp sisters
    * Peopleshemp
    * Spiritstream.com
    * Sweetgrass Natural Fibers

    Your thoughts are appreciated!

Your kind thoughts...
